Clients coming to the Allentown Area Ecumenical Food Bank can expect to receive enough food to last approximately three to five days. The Allentown Food Bank is the only one in the Lehigh Valley area that is open five days a week; and it is one of the few that has meat and eggs as part of its menu.
Clients can expect to receive in their bags, pending availability of food supplies: Cereal, rice, canned fruit and vegetables, a box of macaroni and cheese, soups, pasta/sauce, peanut butter, a loaf of bread, canned meat (usually tuna), eggs and a fresh frozen meat. Pastries, tea, coffee, fresh fruits, and vegetables and extra bread also are provided when available. Clients can also choose an extra food item from the miscellaneous shelf when available. The total quantity of food is dependent on the number in each household (size of the family).
An average family of 4-6 people would receive as supplies when available:
1 loaf of bread
1 box of cereal
3 cans of vegetables
1 bag of rice
3 cans of soup
2 packs of pasta
2 cans of spaghetti sauce
3 small cans of tuna or chicken
1 jar of peanut butter
3 cans of fruit
2 packages of macaroni and cheese
2 dozen eggs as available
Meat as available
